Investment Casting Process

Investment casting is also known as lost wax casting, precision casting. It is one of the oldest manufacturing techniques in the world. Intricate shapes can be achieved with high accuracy. In addition, components that are hard to machine or fabricate are good candidates for this process. It can be used to make parts that can not be produced by normal manufacturing method, such as pump impellers that have complex shapes.

TOOLING -Mould made from 3D model by CNC Machining Center.
WAX INJECTION -medium temperature wax is injected into mould by automatic wax injection machine.
WAX MODEL CLEANING -remove parting line and burrs, flashes.
WAX MODEL TREE -wax model assembled on the gate bar at risers.
CERAMIC SHELL MAKING -wax model tree enveloped by different sand at 6-7 layers by virtue of viscosity of slurry.
DE-WAXING -take out of wax leaving ceramic shell in hollow.
SINTERING -strengthen shell intensity by pre-heating prior to pouring.
CASTING -pour melting metal into shell.(chemical composition testing carried out for both pre-pouring and post pouring)
KNOCK OFF -knock off the ceramic shell by hammer or shaking machine.
RISER CUTTING -separate casting from gate bar by cutting riser
CLEANING -remove risers, metal burrs, pots, flashes.
HEAT TREATMENT -heat treat to feature mechanical properties.
SHOT BLASTING -get rid of rusty, oxidation layers
MACHINING -get accurate dimensions machined by various machining facilities.
POLISHING -obtain better surface quality with both brush and mirror polishing.
INSPECTION -check mechanical property and dimensions.
PACKING -plastic bag, carton, and plywood case used for package.
